It is a trait found in a range of bacterial species that belong to an ancient and exceptionally diverse bacterial phylum, the Firmicutes. In our lab, we take pleasure in combining lines of reasoning inspired by classical bacterial genetics with cutting-edge cell biological tools to obtain mechanistic details about how sporulation cellular dynamics functions and evolves.
